The group project for the Really Cool Individuals has been going really well! We have chosen to focus on gender equality in sports and the struggles that female sport’s teams endure in order to attempt to reach any sort of equality. Our project’s main focus has to do with women in college level sports, why male sports generate a greater audience, revenue and support than women sports, how a female athlete is portrayed and the measures taken toward helping this progression toward equality. Together, we have found scholarly articles concerning each of these topics and are working on writing summaries for the ones we find most useful. The project has been going very well and we have all been working together effortlessly so far!
Right now, I guess I am still wondering how we are going to put together an entire website. I know that we will learn how to in time, I just have never done that before but I am excited because it is a tool I will without a doubt be using in the near future! I also am wondering what the poster is going to need to include and what information we will be able to display on it, I know we have a wide array of topics to gather from, but it might be too wide to narrow down?
This is an advertisement for the Nike women's department with the caption, "Anything you can do, I can do better. I can do anything better than you!" This is just one image of a girl with great confidence, athletic abilities and power that is trying to work toward equality by presenting herself in a more positive way than most women in sports are depicted today.
Don't let the fact that we have 13 recognized varsity female sports and only 12 varsity male sports skew your opinion on if UM has reached equality in sports! Leave it to players, the audience and the media to help dictate that decision. This is a great site to find up-to-date information on all University of Michigan upcoming sporting events, happenings with the teams, recent clips and broadcasting information!
Great blog post!
ReplyDeleteI think I answered some of your questions today in class, but if you still want to know more about how the project works, it's probably easier to talk with me in person in class--like right now. So please don't hesitate to ask!
